As much as I love the original done by Don Bilston, this one kinda blows it out of the park. They have different feels, the Don Bilston one is more of a cry and lement as a man goes on with almost no acknowledgement for his work, this one feels more like a true celebration of the shear work fireman put in to move that train. Both are great but I kinda like the harmony of this one more.

more appropriate now than ever

We learned and sung this song in school when i was about 8 years old.once we had learned we all performed it one morning at assembly.Before coming here the only words i could remember was "here come the navvies were here to save the day".

When Dick Gaughan sings, there's not a note wasted. He has one of the greatest voices ever recorded, as far as I'm concerned.

Music like this from those "folk-rock" British bands of the late 60s - Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention, Pentangle etc. - remains fresh and vital today when so much of the "rock" music of that era is forgettable.
